Anyone Can Innovate Says CEO

Head of global business consultancy firm says innovation is not magic, and identifies 4-point process for leaders to make it happen

WEST CHESTER, PA (August 13, 2008)-Innovation is a business buzz word that inspires needless fear and trepidation among business people and employees around the world, according to Keith Ayers, President of Integro Leadership Institute, a global consultancy firm based in Sydney, Australia and West Chester, PA.

"There's no secret to innovation, but there is a formula," says Ayers, who starts a 13-date executive briefing tour of the U.S. and Australia in Harrisburg, PA, on September 23. "There are four stages to the innovation process: creating, advancing, refining, and executing."

"The reason many organizations fail at innovation is that leaders don't understand that innovation is a four-step process," says Ayers. "The talents required at each step of the process are very different. So different in fact that it is unlikely that one individual will be strong on more than two of the four steps. This means that for innovation to succeed, it needs to be a team-based process."

According to Ayers, a Sydney native who moved to Pennsylvania to launch the U.S. arm of Integro Leadership Institute in 2001, innovation is not the preserve of Silicon Valley. "Anyone can do this. You don't need a multi-million-dollar R&D budget, but you do need a leadership team that is willing to listen to new, perhaps radical, ideas; passionate employees who want to contribute to your success; and an awareness of the team talents of each employee. Trust your people to perform wonders, follow the formula, and your competitors will eat your dust."
